The Overview
This documentation captures the heart and soul of an inspiring project undertaken at the National Institute of Design - Craft Research and Documentation.
Within these pages lie not just words, but the essence of a tradition deeply rooted in the fabric of Lucknow's cultural heritage - the art of NAQQASHI, a Metal craft practiced for generations in the bustling lanes of Yahiyaganj, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Through the warmth of a Craft Document book, the inviting charm of a Brochure, and the nostalgic allure of Postcards, we invite you to embark on a journey into the world of NAQQASHI. It's a world where every stroke of the artisan's hand tells a story, where intricate patterns and motifs whisper tales of bygone eras, and where the rich tapestry of Lucknow's history intertwines seamlessly with the lives of its NAWABS.
Yet, amidst the beauty and craftsmanship lies a silent struggle. This documentation doesn't just showcase the artistry; it shines a light on the challenges faced by the artisans, the threats looming over their craft, and the urgent need for its preservation. Together, let's celebrate the legacy of NAQQASHI and ensure that its flame continues to burn bright for generations to come.
